Sam Zell is the Chairman of Equity Group Investments (EGI), the private investment firm he founded more than 40 years ago. The firm’s investments span industries and continents, and include interests in finance, energy, transportation, communications, healthcare and real estate. Zell is recognized as a founding father of today’s public real estate industry after creating three of the largest real estate investment trusts (REITs) in history.

He is also Founder and Chairman of Equity International, a private investment firm focused on building real estate-related businesses in international emerging markets. Zell has been particularly active in bringing Equity International’s companies to the public markets. Three of these investments are listed on the New York Stock Exchange: Gafisa, a leading homebuilder in Brazil; Xinyuan, a fast-growing regional homebuilder in China; and Homex, Mexico’s leading homebuilder. A fourth, BR Malls, Brazil’s largest retail property owner and operator, is listed on the Bovespa.

Zell maintains substantial interests in, and is the Chairman of, four other public companies listed on the New York Stock Exchange: Equity Residential, the largest apartment REIT in the U.S.; Equity LifeStyle Properties, Inc., a manufactured home community REIT; Covanta Holding Corporation, an international owner/operator of energy-from-waste and power generation facilities; and Anixter International Inc., a leading global provider of communications, security, and wire and cable products. Previously, Zell served as Chairman for Equity Office Properties Trust, which was sold in 2007 to The Blackstone Group for $39 billion in one of the largest private equity transactions in history. 

Zell serves on the JPMorgan National Advisory Board; the President’s Advisory Board at the University of Michigan; the Visitor’s Committee at the University of Michigan Law School; and with the combined efforts of the University of Michigan Business School, established the Zell/Lurie Entrepreneurial Center. Zell’s continual assistance to Michigan’s MBA program has also enhanced the Business School’s Polish Studies Program. He was appointed a DeRoy Visiting Professor in Honors at the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at Michigan. He is also a long-standing supporter of the University of Pennsylvania Wharton Real Estate Center, where he endowed the Samuel Zell/Robert Lurie Real Estate Center. Zell also endowed Northwestern University’s Center for Risk Management. He holds a JD degree and a BA from the University of Michigan.

Mark Wilsmann is Managing Director and Head of Equity Investments for MetLife Real Estate Investors. Named to this role in 2012 in conjunction with MetLife’s launch of its institutional investment management business, Wilsmann is responsible for leading MetLife’s $18 billion direct property investment platform, including overseeing portfolio management, acquisitions and asset management activities across eight domestic and two international regional offices, actively participating in investor outreach activities, and chairing the real estate investment committee. His team recently established MetLife’s new flagship open-ended fund, the MetLife Core Property Fund, as well as core/core-plus managed accounts geared toward public and private pension funds, sovereign wealth funds, and insurance companies. Between 2003 and 2012, Wilsmann led MetLife’s commercial mortgage lending business, directing product design, pricing, and origination activities and chairing the investment commitee. Under his leadership, MetLife became recognized as the top life company portfolio lender, generating annual volume of $8-$11 billion. Over his 24-year career with MetLife, Wilsmann held roles in asset management, acquisitions, loan production, portfolio management, field operations, and mergers’ integration. He served on the board of directors of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the leadership of the Commercial Mortgage Board of Governors of the MBA. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, where he is active in ULI council leadership, and is a member of the Pension Real Estate Association, the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council, and the Capital Markets Committee of the Real Estate Roundtable. Wilsmann holds a BA and MBA from Wake Forest University.

Tom is responsible for the creation and implementation of the investment and business strategies for the Americas portfolio, existing and future investments in the US, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and is significantly involved with the development and execution of ADIA’s global real estate strategy.
Previously, Tom was a partner at Cerberus Capital Management based in New York City.  Tom’s responsibility at Cerberus Capital included the origination and execution of real estate, lending, and private equity transactions.  Prior to Cerberus Capital, Tom was a Managing Director and senior real estate acquisitions officer, overseeing portfolio management and coordinating financing facilities.  At both Cerberus and ING, Tom managed key investor relationships and gained significant experience with investment fund design and fund administration.
Prior to ING, Tom was a Director at Credit Suisse and a Principal of the Praedium Funds when those funds were affiliated with Credit Suisse.  Tom began his real estate principal focus at Salomon Brothers (now Citigroup) with selective firm principal activity as well as related advisory work with financial institutions saddled with troubled loan and REO assets.  Prior to Salomon Brothers, Tom practiced law for five years, principally with Holland & Knight, focusing on real estate, lending, securities, and bankruptcy matters.

Joe Marconi is Senior Vice President in Harvard Management Company’s real estate group, which manages Harvard’s $4 billion global portfolio of real estate direct joint ventures, funds, and co-investments. Responsibilities include portfolio management, selection, underwriting, negotiating and management of Harvard’s real estate investments.  Joe is also responsible for establishing the program around the firm’s new joint venture investment portfolio, oversight for the real estate team operations and guidance to the JV operating partners and the HMC investment team regarding asset and investment management. 
 
Joe joined Harvard in 2011 from Guggenheim Real Estate where he was an Investment Officer.  As one of the original partners he was instrumental in the design and implementation of their joint venture investment program.  He was a member of the investment committee and responsible for the selection, underwriting, management and dispositions for a $2 billion, 5 million square foot diverse portfolio across the United States.  Before Guggenheim, Joe was a Manager at Price Waterhouse in their Transaction Services and Real Estate Advisory groups. 
 
Joe is a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Property Manager.  He received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida and holds a Master of Accounting from the Fisher School of Accounting at the University of Florida.

Robert B. Bellinger, CFA, President, CEO – Mr. Bellinger is responsible for all functions of ASB’s Real Estate Division.  ASB is a U.S. real estate investment management firm with more than $4 billion in assets under management for over 200 institutional investors.  ASB’s portfolios include office, retail, multi-family and industrial properties totaling approximately 16 million square feet in fifteen major markets across the United States.  Mr. Bellinger has 29 years of real estate investment experience, and has completed over $10 billion in real estate capital transactions during his career.  Prior to joining ASB Capital Management, Mr. Bellinger worked with Lend Lease Real Estate Investments as an Executive Vice President and Principal, heading the Private Client Group; Senior Vice President directing the National Asset Sales group; and Vice President leading the acquisition of equity and debt investments in the Washington, DC region.  Prior to joining Lend Lease in 1990, he worked as Development Project Manager with Trammell Crow Company.  He is the founder, former President, and a current board member of Rebuilding Together Philadelphia.  Mr. Bellinger serves on the Board and Executive Committee of the Zell Lurie Real Estate Center of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.  He received a BA with honors from Haverford College and an MBA from the Wharton School where he received the Dean’s Award of Excellence.

Since joining Morgan Stanley Real Estate in 1998, Michael has worked closely with the firm’s real estate clients across a broad range of investing, advisory and financing  activities.  His responsibilities have included pursuing new investment activity, undertaking restructurings and recapitalizations, completing M&A and advisory assignments and executing capital raising initiatives.  He currently manages the global finance, operations, infrastructure and fundraising activities for the firm’s real estate investment management business.


Michael also serves as the Portfolio Manager for MSREF VII International, is chairman of MSREI’s valuation committee and a senior member of the group’s investment and risk committees.  He was previously co-head of Morgan Stanley’s real estate investment banking practice in the U.S. in 2007-2008, head of the group’s U.S. west cost investing and advisory activities  in 2006-2007, a senior member of the global lodging advisory team from 2003-2006 and global operations officer during 2001-2002.

Mr. Giller has worked in the real estate private equity sector for over 25 years and has closed real estate investments totaling $3 billion. His experience includes the acquisition, asset management, structuring, financing, underwriting, pricing, and closing of transactions in the U.S., the UK, Western Europe, Latin America, and Asia. During his career, Mr. Giller has made investments in individual properties, programmatic joint ventures, large portfolios, real estate operating companies and private equity secondaries and recapitalizations in the real estate private equity, distressed commercial mortgage and commercial real estate mortgage backed securities sectors. Prior to forming Clairvue Capital Partners, Mr. Giller was a Managing Principal and the Chief Investment Officer of Liquid Realty Partners, where he played a key role in acquiring and managing real estate private equity secondary investments, portfolio management and building and guiding the strategic direction of the firm. Prior to joining Liquid Realty Partners, Mr. Giller held senior positions in or formed various real estate private equity investment firms. From 1993 until 2000 Mr. Giller was with JER Partners, a leading global real estate opportunity fund manager. In addition to focusing on acquiring distressed debt portfolio acquisitions and properties in the U.S., Mr. Giller served as Managing Director of JER France, SA, where he started and was responsible for building and running JER’s European investment platform. After leaving JER in 2000, Mr. Giller became a founding partner of real estate fund managers Towbes Capital Partners and Somera Realty Value Fund Advisors. Mr. Giller began his career as an acquisitions analyst and associate at Metric Realty Advisors (the predecessor to Blackrock Realty Advisors), investing on a separate account basis for pension plan sponsors such as CalPERS, and the Alaska Permanent Fund. Mr. Giller earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Virginia. Previously, he was a Managing Director at Wells Fargo Securities/Eastdil Secured, responsible for providing investment banking services to both public and private real estate companies, including equity and debt issuance, corporate advisory and mergers & acquisitions activities. Prior to Eastdil, Christopher was a Managing Director and Group Head of Real Estate Equity Research at Banc of America Securities and also worked in Real Estate equity research and strategic planning at JP Morgan. He holds a bachelor's degree from Cornell University. Recently, Mr. Neveloff represented Starwood Hotels in selling the retail portion of the St. Regis Hotel, Manhattan; the owner of Starrett City, the largest federally subsidized housing complex in the United States, in a capital transaction; Fortress Investments in connection with The Sheffield, a 497-unit condominium; New York Life Insurance Company in the sale of Manhattan House, a residential complex comprising an entire block of Manhattan; and the seller of The New Frontier Hotel Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Mr. Neveloff has represented Donald Trump for more than 25 years in innumerable matters.

Mr. Neveloff received his J.D. from NYU and was elected to the American Law Institute, American College of Real Estate Lawyers and American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

Craig Nickerson serves as President of the National Community Stabilization Trust, a national nonprofit organization created in 2008 to spur the revitalization of neighborhoods in the wake of the current housing crisis. The Stabilization Trust helps localities hard hit by foreclosures and abandonment by increasing access to foreclosed property and improving access to financing from participating financial institutions. Craig has held leadership roles in the community development arena for over 40 years. From 1997 to 2008, Craig was Vice President of Expanding Markets for Freddie Mac, where he had oversaw all single-family affordable housing lending initiatives for the corporation. Prior to joining Freddie Mac, Craig worked for Secretary of HUD Henry Cisneros as Coordinator of the “National Partners in Homeownership”, a broad-based, public-private partnership of 65 national organizations to increase homeownership opportunity for underserved populations. In other leadership roles, Craig has served as Executive Director of the City of Boston, Office of Housing, administering all citywide affordable housing initiatives and at HUD, as National Director of Housing Rehabilitation, managing such housing programs as the Rental Rehabilitation Program, Urban Homesteading, and CDBG. Craig is also the author of numerous publications regarding neighborhood revitalization and affordable lending, co-authored the National Homeownership Strategy for the Clinton Administration, developed the Catch the Dream and Don’t Borrow Trouble campaigns for Freddie Mac, and has served on numerous national boards and advisory panels.

Jeffrey is responsible for the Real Estate Investment Group (REIG) within the Investment Management Division, which invests in core, core plus and value added real estate assets in the United States on behalf of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and Private Wealth Management clients. He has over 25 years of real estate investing experience. Jeffrey joined Goldman Sachs as a managing director in November 2010.


Prior to joining the firm, Jeffrey was responsible for leading real estate investment activity, including both direct investments and joint ventures, throughout the United States for ING Clarion Partners, one of the largest US real estate investment management firms and a wholly owned subsidiary of the ING Group. He served on the firm’s Executive Board, Operating Committee and led its Investment Committee. Prior to joining ING in 1993, Jeffrey was a partner at Hamilton Securities, a Washington, DC-based investment bank. From 1989 to 1992, he was responsible for investment sales at Jones Lang LaSalle. Jeffrey began his real estate investment career in 1983 at the Lawrence Ruben Company, a private development and investment company. He also worked in the real estate department of Chemical Bank and in the equity research group at CS First Boston.

Jeffrey is vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM), chairman of the IOPC Gold Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), and member of the board of the Pension Real Estate Association (PREA). He has also served as an adjunct professor in the MBA program at Columbia Business School since 2004.

Michael C. Sonny Kalsi is one of the Founding Partners of GreenOak Real Estate, a real estate merchant banking platform with operations in New York, London and Tokyo.  He formed GreenOak in early 2010 along with his partners, and former Morgan Stanley colleagues, John Carrafiell (London) and Fred Schmidt (Tokyo).  Sonny was, until early 2009, the Global Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing (MSREI) and President of the Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds (MSREF).  Prior to that, he was the Global Co-Head of MSRE Investing.  At its peak, MSRE Investing had approximately $100 billion of assets under management in 33 countries and 25 offices around the world with over 800 full time staff.  The largest concentrations of asset holdings were in the US, UK, Germany, Japan and China.

Prior to managing MSRE Investing globally, Sonny helped to build its Asian business, spending nine years in Hong Kong and Tokyo.  During his tenure, the team grew to over 300 professionals, with an operation that included Japan, China, India, South Korea, Australia and a number of other countries. Before joining Morgan Stanley in 1991, Sonny was employed by PaineWebber in the Mergers and Acquisitions Department.  Sonny has been involved on the boards of a number of the MSRE portfolio companies and continues to act as an important advisor to many of their management teams.  He has been cited in several publications for his profile in the real estate industry, including Private Equity Real Estate magazine as one of the “30 Most Influential” people in private equity real estate globally.


He is a graduate of Georgetown University with a degree in Business Administration and remains actively involved with the school.  Sonny is also involved in a number of industry organizations, including the Urban Land Institute and PREA.  He is a member of the Board of Regents of Georgetown University, a Trustee of the Asia Society and a board member of the Jorge Posada Foundation.  Sonny is also actively involved in the Metro NYC and International chapters of YPO.  During the Fall of 2009, Sonny served as an Assistant Adjunct Professor at Columbia University in the Master’s of Real Estate Program, teaching a course in International Real Estate with a focus on Japan and China.

He has served as a panelist/speaker for several national and regional organizations including DePaul, NAIOP, IREM, ICSC, Real Estate Forum Magazine, AFIRE and various roundtable discussions sponsored by national real estate brokerage firms.  Recently, he was elected into the Midwest Commercial Real Estate Hall of Fame by Midwest Real Estate News Magazine. Bill received both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from DePaul University.
