Pre-Conference Workshop

Improving Information Quality & Transparency in Catastrophe Bond Transactions

Tuesday November 2, 2010 | 7:30 am to 9:00 am

Catastrophe bond transactions can utilize a range of different types of triggers as points of measure to define whether they have experienced a loss or not. The types of triggers used by cat bond deals have changed over the years the market has existed as some come into favor and others receive less attention. Indemnity triggers still dominate the market for cat bonds but other trigger types such as modelled loss have gained favor in recent years. There is also the possibility of new hybrid triggers gaining favor amongst issuers. This workshop will uncover how to make better use of catastrophe bond models through improved information quality and increased transparency in transactions.

What will be covered:

  • Issues with property exposure data, and why they exist
  • Establishing consistent benchmarks across multiple transactions and multiple models
  • Evaluating sponsor exposure processes and information quality
  • Approaches to increasing information quality disclosures for sponsors and investors

How you will benefit:

  • Understand the discrepancies between different cat bond models
  • Uncover the relationship between modeled values and cat bond pricing
  • Become a more sophisticated cat bond investor
  • Generate superior returns from catastrophe bonds through use of different risk models
